One of the most popular models in the world, the “Avtomat Kalishnikova,” or the AK-47, created by the Soviet Union, is indisputably one of the most iconic firearms in history.

Yet, SN’s “AK-47” is a strikingly tranquil piece. SN takes an icon of war, and covers it with butterflies–yellow butterflies, blue butterflies, and at the very end of the barrel– a white butterfly. His charcoal and pencil drawing of the gun underneath the mounted butterflies is so real, you can almost reach out and touch it, but he takes all the malice and danger implicit in a weapon and turns it around.

His subtle commentary on military armament culminates in a simple white butterfly, an almost heartbreaking plea for peace.
